Photographer Spotlight | Brooke Schultz

Photographer Spotlight: Brooke Schultz

Location: Southern Cali & Utah

What's in your camera bag & what's your favorite lens?

I shoot 100% film! Pentax 645nii with 75mm f2.8 lens and modded Zeiss f2.0 lens (this one is my favorite though it's almost impossible to focus); Nikon f100 with 24-70 2.8lens , 85mm 1.8 lens

Who inspires you?

Photographers: Richard Avedon, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Yan Palmer, Rodney Smith. Anything Pasek + Paul create is amazing (they're the musicians who wrote the music for La La Land, Greatest Showman, + Dear Evan Hansen); Damien Chazelle, Chase Jarvis, Cathy Heller, Amanda Gorman, Adrienne Oliver, and Elizabeth Gilbert just to name a few.

What makes your brand unique?

Lots of family photographers focus on kids, but my mission is to make parenthood deeply seen and help people live wildly creative lives: life with intention, ingenuity, and FUN! I care just as deeply about fun as I do about meaning. 🙂

What's your favorite aspect of your business?

Seeing parenthood and creating tangible things

What business advice would you give to someone overwhelmed with starting out?

Niche as narrowly as you can stand, then expand once you have an audience. 99%of photographers try to be everything to everyone in the beginning to get work, but having a specific vision + philosophy is way more attractive (and saves you from having to fire all your clients in 2 years when you're super burnt out from doing things that aren't aligned with your zone of genius.) Being new is a strength: industries get bogged down by circling their own drains, so the thing you want to do that you wonder why other photographers aren't doing--that is your secret sauce.

What's your Starbucks drink?

i'm a boring water girl! HA! I don't drink coffee or alcohol. I like to keep those parts of my life "boring" so I can be as wild as I want in my creative life.
