Photographer Spotlight: Caitlyn Motycka

What’s in your camera bag & what’s your favorite lens?
I’m a hybrid photographer so my usual setup is my Canon 5D Mark IV with a Sigma 35mm ART lens & a Canon EOS 3 with my Canon 50mm 1.4 lens. I shoot with Fuji400h 35mm film and love it so, so much!
What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t working?
Exploring Charleston with my husband and our two boys! We have a 2 year old and a 5 year old with tons of energy so we love going on “adventures” to the local beaches and downtown while eating all of the amazing Southern food.
Who inspires you?
My boys are the reason I picked up a camera to begin with and I will always be grateful to be able to document their personalities and see how they’ve grown from behind the lens – it just gives me all the feels. What I didn’t expect when I started this photography journey though was the support and inspiration I’d find int he motherhood photography community and what a huge honor it is helping other mamas get in the frame with their little ones.
What makes your brand unique?
I’m a lifestyle photographer for families who want their love documented via both film and digital mediums, surrounded with the beautiful light and landscape of the Lowcountry.
What’s your favorite aspect of your business?
Hands down my favorite aspect of my business is helping other mamas get in the frame with their kids. I missed out on being in photos with my own kinds when they were babies and it means os much to me to be able to make sure that other mamas, no matter how busy they are, can be present in photos with their children, feel beautiful and enjoy a total stress-free process.
What business advice would you give to someone overwhelmed with starting out?
Find a mentor or join a photography community like The Motherhood Anthology. Having the support of others who know the industry and are willing to help you improve your business have been instrumental in helping me build my business from nothing to fully booked in just 1.5 years!
