Bio: My name is Rachel and I live in Birmingham, AL with my husband, two girls, and dog. Most days you can find me up early, coffee in hand, reading or journaling. I love exploring and traveling, but I also love curling up on the couch watching reruns of Parks and Rec. My husband and I love creating and working on projects together when we can find the time… which is becoming rare these days 😉 I have a degree in Speech-Language Pathology and worked in an elementary school for four years before staying home with my girls, Ruby and Hanna. Speaking of, my family is my world and my inspiration. My love for photography began a long time ago, but after the birth of my first, I discovered that photographing motherhood, families, and children is where my passion is.

In my approach to photography, and life in general, I strive towards authenticity, deep connections, and simplicity. One reason I love photography is the chance it gives me to meet new people and reconnect with old friends. Photography gives me a unique opportunity to learn more about people, hear their stories, and highlight what makes their family beautiful- and I consider that an honor. These things guide each detail of my sessions including the location, wardrobe, lighting, and the interactions. I truly hope you come away with not only beautiful pictures that you will cherish forever, but also a renewed appreciation for your family and what makes you all special.

Session Details: I photographed this gorgeous mamma and her baby in their light-filled home during the winter months. She has two older boys and is also a photographer, so I knew that these photographs would be extra special to her. We chose clothing with neutral, organic tones to complement the soft light and white walls in her home. I love how the texture of their clothing adds interested and depth to the photos. As I was shooting, I looked for areas with beautiful light and simple backgrounds to highlight the connection between mom and baby. As you can probably tell from the photos, this little 8-month old baby absolutely loved being the center of her mama’s attention during our time together, so it wasn’t difficult to capture sweet, organic moments between the two of them!
