Bio:
Hi I'm Rachel and I live in Birmingham, AL with my husband and two girls. Most days you can find me up early, coffee in hand, reading or journaling. I love exploring and traveling, but I also love curling up on the couch watching reruns of Parks and Rec. My husband and I love creating and working on projects together when we can find the time... which is becoming rare these days 😉 I have a degree in Speech-Pathology and worked in an elementary school for four years before staying home with my girls, Ruby and Hanna. Speaking of, my family is my world and my inspiration. My love for photography began a long time ago, but after the birth of my first, I discovered that photographing motherhood, families and children is where my passion lies.Session Details:
This session was shot on a chilly February morning at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham, AL. I have had the privilege of photographing Deanna and her girls several times over the past year, and feel so honored each time I do. I have begun incorporating more and more film into my sessions and this time I shot about 90% film. What I have always loved about film is how it captures a certain soft dreaminess, that is at the same time imperfect and raw. It imparts this intangible nostalgia factor that can be difficult to replicate. As a young mother myself, I know that motherhood is just that - raw, authentic and takes time to develop (did you catch that?). Motherhood will forever be my favorite subject to photograph. It was evident that the bond between these three was so strong and it was a beautiful thing to be able to witness.
