What is your favorite thing to do when you aren't working?
At almost any time of the year, you can find me playing in volleyball leagues and tournaments with my husband, hosting family members from Hawaii, and playing with my Yorkie! I am also a Marriage and Family Therapist and see a few clients throughout the week.
Who inspires you?
Of all the many people who inspire me daily, I am most inspired by my husband Michael. Going against the grain of ‘normalcy’ is his specialty in almost every area of life, and he shows up authentically in every relationship and situation he’s part of. I am constantly inspired to step outside my comfort zone and the box of societal expectations, and to let genuineness lead in every part of my life.
What makes your brand unique?
Creating authentic connections with my clients in every part of my business (through marketing, photography, designing, etc.) and allowing my personal values and lifestyle to intersect with my business is what makes my brand unique! The last five years of running this business has shown me how important the alignment between these two worlds is for my business growth and developing my unique brand voice. I love breaking the barrier between photographer and client, becoming friends with my clients, and getting to see them through many milestones.
What is your favorite aspect of your business and what you do?
One of my favorite aspects of my business has been finding more creative ways to serve my clients beyond their photo sessions. Discovering ways to make things easier and make the experience more fun brings me so much joy as a photographer! Helping clients have a smooth, enjoyable photo experience has also allowed me to spend more intentional time with each client, which helps me connect with each family in a deeper way!
What business advice would you give to someone overwhelmed and just starting out?
1. Focus on your unique strengths and experiences. Discover the distinction between finding inspiration from your favorite photography business vs. building a copy-cat brand. Use what inspires you to develop your distinct strengths and create a brand that feels authentically you! 2. Have confidence in pricing that supports your livelihood and reflects your value and expertise as a photographer. There are clients for every photographer (at every price point). Some clients that will invest $300 for a session, while others will invest $3,000! 3. Serving is the most powerful aspect of marketing. Change the question from “how can I get more clients/make more money?” to “how can I serve my clients better?” and everything else will fall into place.
