Bio:
Hi there, I’m Laurel! I am a Metro-Detroit Maternity, Newborn and Family Photographer. As a fine-art photographer and a Mother of three, I am constantly seeking for the magic in the mundane. I love to witness the incredibly poetic moments inherent to Motherhood and feel absolutely fulfilled when given the chance to document them. Having three children of my own, I know that capturing their fleeting childhood is difficult. What is even more difficult is getting in the frame yourself. Timeless images including the entire family that capture the essence of you – that is what I bring to the table.
Session Details:
I am so grateful that I was able to work with the Karpenko family who played through the rain and were free to show their love and playfulness while I shot my first rolls of medium format film. Both Mom and Dad are frontline workers as a firefighter and nurse. They have difficulty scheduling time to be together with their girls and I felt so honored to photograph their growing family together. I have loved the dreamy way that film is able to capture light for years and it feels like a dream to be able to capture that now for families that I photograph. Dima, the father in this family is a film photographer himself and it was so wonderful to work with a family who truly understands and values film photography themselves. The two sweet sisters are so excited for their new sibling to join their family and it showed in the way they interacted with their Mom during the session. This maternity session of the Karpenko family was taken during a mentor session with Savan Photography.
