What's in your camera bag & what's your favorite lens?
When I'm off to a session, my camera bag usually consists of my Contax 645 + Zeiss 80mm, Nikon f6 + 58mm, and a digital backup (which right now is a Nikon Z6ii). My favorite lens has to be my Zeiss 80 for my Contax. It creates the most beautiful bokeh and has such a dreamy quality to it.
Who inspires you?
My own family is such a huge source of inspiration to me. They help me to see what is truly important, and that transcends into how I approach photography their families. As far as photographers go, I have always been inspired by Elizabeth Messina. It was after I read her book that I bought my film camera and fell in love with photography all over again.
What is your favorite thing to do when you aren't working?
When I'm not working, my favorite thing to do is spend time with my family. Right now with it being summer, that means playing in the pool, spending time at the beach, and running around the yard with the kids.
What makes your brand unique?
I feel what makes my brand unique is that it truly comes from my own heart. I have found what I am passionate about and what inspires me and have used that to develop my brand and business. My business caters to a mother's heart and making the photography experience as stress free for her as possible.
What's your favorite aspect of your business?
My favorite aspect of what I do is connecting with other mother and getting them in front of the camera. So often as mothers, we are the ones behind the camera taking the photos. Motherhood deserves and needs to be documented. Not only for us mothers, but for our children as well. I always encourage moms to get in the photos, and I always spend a bit more time photographing moms with their children. I want her to view her photos and see the love in her eyes for her family and the way they love her back. I want her to feel those memories every time she looks at her photographs.
What business advice would you give to someone overwhelmed with starting out?
Take the time to really hone your skills first, so you can be prepared for whatever comes your way at any session. Try to stay consistent with your work and your editing, that way your clients know what they can expect. Put on blinders and focus on you and your own business. Find what it is you are truly passionate about capturing - not just what seems to be working for others - and your heart will show in every photo you take.
What's your Starbucks drink?
To be honest, I'm not a huge Starbucks drinker (crazy, huh?). But, when I do happen to stop by a Starbucks, I would probably get a caramel macchiato.
