Bio:
Aloha! I’m Caitlin, a wedding and family photographer specializing in documenting soul-filled, joyful memories for those who value real over perfect. I am originally from Hawai’i, but am now based out of sunny Southern California, more specifically Pasadena/Los Angeles. I grew up with a love for photography, that has now evolved into a full-time calling!
Life can be a rollercoaster, full of peaks and valleys. Each day we have to spend with our loved ones is a gift. For that reason, I believe in celebrating all the highs to the fullest, basking in joy and connection whenever possible, and preserving feelings with photographs — Photographs that burst with happy tears, and laughter, and the most incredible gift we share in our experience as human beings: love. I am so grateful to be able to photograph people experiencing love for a living. It’s truly the best.
About the Session:
For this motherhood session, I knew that I wanted to step outside of my box. I wanted to do something less traditional than the maternity photos commonly seen, and I wanted to feel inspired in a brand new way. Cara, our beautiful mother to be, provided me with total creative freedom for her session!
I have always been drawn to the element of water, especially when photographed on film. Water plus some gorgeous light, and you have the recipe for magic.
Water is fluid yet supportive, reflective yet shielding. Water can be gentle, but also a force to be reckoned with. Just like mothers.
Through these images, I wanted to hint at the complexity of motherhood and the layers of identity involved, and simply create without the pressure of pleasing.
Cara graciously invited us into her home for this day of experimentation and creativity. We had the most wonderful time playing with textures, shadows, and layers. Cara absolutely cannot wait to meet her little girl and further step into her new role as “Mom.” I love how much her love, strength, and beauty glows through these images already!
