What is in your camera bag?
Nikon D750, Nikon 35mm 1.4 (favorite, go-to lens), Nikon 50mm 1.4, Sigma Art 85mm 1.4
What is your favorite thing to do when you aren't working?
Spending time at the ocean, going on family walks, going out for coffee or breakfast, and finding daily outings that allow my little ones to explore something new!
Who inspires you?
My parents' entrepreneurial journey inspired me a lot in growing my own business. Together they own and run a speciality spice shop in the Raleigh, NC area. I loved watching how they used collaborations and partnerships with other small businesses to not only help their own brand but others as well.
What makes your brand unique?
My signature trademarked offer, The Milestone Collection, allows my families to build customizable portrait collections for their journey to baby. They may choose 2-5 sessions from pregnancy announcement to maternity, birth, newborn, and family. I believe what sets my brand apart most is that I truly want my mamas to feel loved and supported throughout their pregnancy journey. I got my doula certification so that I can not only support them through their labor + delivery if they happen to hire me as their birth photographer, but also as a sounding board to help process all they are experiencing whether its at her maternity or newborn session. I also created a podcast and Facebook group as another resource during a time that can feel overwhelming and isolating.
What is your favorite aspect of your business and what you do?
The relationship I get to build with my families. Sometimes I am one of the first people to know when they find out they are pregnant, and getting to be alongside them in the whole journey from those two pink lines all the way through baby in their arms is the biggest honor.
What business advice would you give to someone overwhelmed and just starting out?
Just take one baby step at a time and START SOMEWHERE! Beginning a business from the ground up can feel so intimidating, but I promise it's not as crazy as it seems. Even doing something as simple as changing your Instagram bio to tell your audience you are a photographer accepting clients is a step in the right direction. I would also say that community plays such an important role in your growth as a solo entrepreneur. I'd recommend taking any opportunity to learn from someone you look up to whether it's through an internship, paid mentorship, group coaching program, course, etc.
What's your Starbucks drink?
I much prefer my local coffee shops where my order is always a hot vanilla latte. But there is something about the sweet cream cold brew at Starbucks that has quite the stronghold on me!
